Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between SG and PPT?

SG (Specific Gravity) is a relative measurement without units, while PPT (Parts Per Thousand) measures the actual salt concentration in grams per liter.

What is the ideal salinity for a reef tank?

Most corals thrive between 33-35 PPT (1.024-1.026 SG). Natural ocean salinity is about 35 PPT.

Refractometer or hydrometer?

Refractometers are more accurate. Swing-arm hydrometers can have errors of up to 0.003 SG. Always calibrate with a reference solution.
